I think it's fitting that I am starting another blog on Halloween. Today is the day where things long past are supposed to come back to life after all.
Confession...I've started and ended so many blogs I've lost count, it's been over a year since I've done any serious writing and I'm not sure I really have anything to say that's worth immortalizing inside the cyber-universe. That said, I have made a decision that this will be my last blog regardless of the outcome. My blog-fingerprint is on too many virtual crime scenes. I have not had a blog that has been all my own for a few years now. I've tried to co-blog (is that a word?) with some friends but it never really works out because life happens and someone always ends up writing more than the other person.
Lessons have been learned and I'm hoping that I return to the world of blogging better for it. I'm sure I'll have no idea what I'm writing about until I am inspired to put fingertips to keyboard and type it out. That's the great thing about writing afterall, the world truly is your playground.
Since it is Halloween and I've been on a supernatural bent of late, I'd like to write a little something about one of my favorite topics....Zombies. I've been watching "The Walking Dead", reading this book by Colson Whitehead called Zone One and I live in Portland Oregon so I've had Zombies on the mind lately. I can hear some of you saying "wait, what does Portland Oregon have to do with Zombies?" Well to be honest, not much, but there are a lot of hipsters in Portland and hipsters are pretty damn close to Zombies if you think about it. They have a one track mind, they look very similar to each other and the more exposure you have to them the more likely you are to become one. Perhaps I'll write more about my Hipster/Zombie theories in an upcoming blog but for now, back to regular, old, dead, brain eat'n Zombies.
I've written about how to survive a Zombie Apocalypse in the past and I think I've said some controversial things. Some people didn't seem to agree with my assertion that you should eliminate the person who is the most mentally unstable should you find yourself among a group of survivors. I don't want to get into my reasons for such a harsh judgment but I still stand firmly by that comment.
I'll keep my new Zombie epiphany short and simple. Epiphany is a little overly dramatic but regardless, here it is:
The world is now filled with 7 Billion potential Zombies so when the apocalypse comes and that number gets whittled down with horrific efficiency remember that if you want to be one of the re-builders of the new society all you really have to do is survive the first 60 days. That's right, 60 days! That's your magic number. Survive those 60 and you are pretty much an official member of new Earth. The first 30 will consist of a lot of people getting eaten and the country's military sweeping through and lighting up the dead and the infected. The last 30 will consist of the remaining Zombie stragglers being taken down and probably a considerable amount of human on human violence until order is once again restored. Survive that first two months and you're good to go. Just a helpful hint and some encouragement from your local Zombie expert. Happy Halloween folks.
